Creative tech

I work at the creative end of technology. Over 35 years of professional life this has incorporated music, film making, 360 video production, VR, web 3 and AI. I’m an optimistic creative tech utopian.

I’m also greatly concerned about the outcome of this AI race.

I believe that we are on the cusp of massive global disruption. My involvement in technology is to help bring about a positive outcome.

Immersive experiences and the spatial web.

I’ve been in video production since 2005 and 360 video since 2015. I’ve been actively involved in the rise of online video for many years. I’m now closely watching the next stage of internet evolution with the spatial web, immersive experiences, AI and VR. I see amazing opportunities ahead for education, training, entertainment, commerce, empathy and the health of the mind and body.

The end of the creative industries?

I’m a creator at heart. The creative industries are one of the first to be disrupted by automation and AI. The business models around creativity and content creation need to change. I believe a decentralised web 3 can provide tools for content creators to help build communities, monetise and have more control over their work. I believe the creative industries can find creative solutions that may help other industries adapt.

AI, automation, post labor economics, DAO, utopia, existential risk.

I’m an optimist though have a mixed outlook. I’m excited for a future where we can enjoy creativity, learning, purposeful projects and community without the financial pressure of survival.  I’m also concerned about the potential risks we may unleash in our race toward general AI with massive incentives and little time to plan. I’m interested to explore and help build innovative new institutions and economies with blockchain based decentralised organisational structures to help navigate this precarious time.
